
Quick. Easy. There’s nothing like a Bambi. And aren’t they the cutest? This recipe yields 10 rolls, so you may have left overs. If you do, slip in a slice of Rock-Me-Mama Turkey Cutlet and an egg 🍳and you’ve got a croque monsieur for breakfast the next morning.
Approximately 90 calories per bun
- Prep time: about 20 to 25 minutes
- Rising time: about 1 ½ hours
- Cook time: about 15 to 20 minutes
- Total time: a little more than 2 hours
Ingredients
- The Dough
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon (tsp) rapid-rise, bread-machine or other instant yeast
- ½ teaspoon (tsp) salt
- 1 teaspoon (tsp) superfine sugar
- ¼ cup heavy cream
- ¼ cup water
- ½ tablespoon (Tbsp) butter, softened
- ½ tablespoon (Tbsp) oil for bowl and baking sheet
- The Glaze Topping (Use about ⅓ of it)
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- ½ tablespoon (Tbsp) Heavy cream
- ½ tablespoon (Tbsp) water
- Final Garnish
- Pinch of salt
- 2 teaspoons (tsp) sesame seeds
Steps
- The 1st Rise
- In a bowl, combine flour, salt and sugar.
- In a small saucepan, add water, sugar and butter – place over low heat until liquid is lukewarm.
- Add the yeast to the liquids
- Add the cream and butter to the liquids
- Pour into bowl of flour, salt and sugar.
- Mix with a fork to make a rough dough, adding more flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, if necessary.
- Knead dough until smooth and silky.
- Place in an oiled bowl, and cover with plastic wrap.
- Let rise in a warm place until double in size, about 1 hour.
- The 2nd Rise
- Punch air out of dough.
- Oil a baking sheet, and set aside.
- Pull off pieces of dough the size of walnuts, and form into round balls.
- Place on baking sheet.
- Cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place 30 minutes.
- The Glaze
- Meanwhile, pre-heat oven to 425° degrees.
- When rolls have risen, make a glaze by beating together the egg, cream, water and salt.
- Paint rolls with glaze.

- Sprinkle with sesame seeds and a pinch of salt.

- Baking
- Bake rolls until risen and golden brown, about 15 minutes. .
- Serve
- Serve hot.
