The OtterBox Venture 25-Quart Cooler keeps ice for days.
In fact, on a Tennessee hot summer day in 2018 we performed a side-by-side test of both the Yeti and the OtterBox.
Results: The ice lasted almost as long as the Yeti – the difference was almost imperceptible. But we preferred the Otterbox. Why? The interior is slightly larger and the lid is easier to manage. If you need to physically haul a cooler around, then the Yeti is better because the handle – which also functions as the lock – is a superior feature for portability.
But our cooler is hardly ever used and when we do use it, it just sits on a bench in the truck, outside the trailer, or inside when it’s raining. We gave our Yeti to Daddy because the Otterbox is our preference. Daddy calls the Yeti his Redneck Rolex.
Why do we even need a cooler? Great question. I ask myself this all the time. Why? With a refrigerator, freezer and ice maker on board, is a cooler necessary? Well, just like living in a house, a cooler is kind of a requirement for parties in our camp and for outings away from Beauty. It also comes in handy when we have to defrost the freezer, or shop for groceries at a great distance from camp.
A cooler is simply an awkward and bulky necessity – so you want to have the right one. It needs to work hard to earn its keep.
When the Otterbox is not in use we store our pile of canvas shopping bags in it. And, when guests arrive, it makes a great place to sit when you’re a chair short. So, our Otterbox tries. It really does.
Great cooler … for a cooler.
