International Women’s Day

Today, on International Women’s Day, I am being highlighted by Airstream.

How wonderful to be noticed for simply enjoying life to the fullest. I am bursting with pride and a sense of history with this honor.

Wally Byam, Airstream’s founder, had a vision of pleasure travel as breaking away from the usual and making every day a new beginning.

New beginnings is what International Women’s Day is about. Breaking away from old stories, old patterns, old roles and finding happiness.

Travel is useful fun, productive entertainment. It is a tool to penetrate the world and learn more about others and, thus, yourself. Travel is power.

I would like to thank Airstream for featuring Living In Beauty on this important day and for empowering women (even senior women) to make our lives what we want, where we want, wherever our wheels can take us!

    While happily living a more rooted and grounded life, tagging along on your adventures affords one the vicarious experience of life on the road. It stirs the senses and, yes, it is empowering.

      I must say it is energizing to be highlighted on International Women’s Day. Women, literally, are on the move these days and passionate about mobility. Traveling nurses and teachers are in high demand. Seniors are traveling around looking for affordable housing – and we’re seeing more senior women traveling solo. Millie O’Donnell, our senior solo Airstream friend tutors women on how to tow, hitch, unhitch, refresh their tanks and maintain their Airstream trailers. The Airstream community is serious about support and nurturing lasting relationships. It’s truly an honor to be a small contribution in that wide network.

      As an owner of one of Beauty’s sister-Airstreams (Same model, same year) you can imagine the happy fest when the Mothership reaches out to say, Well done. We’re loving Beauty up today. Maybe we’ll get out there with the dry wash tomorrow and shine her up together. Happy times.

      By the way, are you travelling to see the eclipse?

      1. Yes the Greater St Louis Airstream Club is having a boondocking rally in southern Illinois that we plan on attending. How about you?

        1. Bill, we are going to central Texas with a few other Airsteamers to watch the eclipse from a bluebonnet covered field in a friends backyard. Last eclipse in August 2017 we watched it from Telico Plains, Tennessee. It was amazing. Hope both of our skies are cloudless April 8th with perfect weather. Enjoy!! Jim

  26. Carmen, (and well sure Jim too!),

    I’ve been listening to your podcast since 2018 when we bought our Airstream. We no longer have that trailer but I love your podcasts. They are one of my go-to’s when I’m driving home from work in the evening and I cannot tell you how they calm my mind and remind me of what we have to look forward to in a few short years. You have an amazing storytelling gift. If you are ever in Miami my husband and I would love to take you to dinner.

I have the image both in my mind and in my photo file! Indeed it has been a wild (and wonderful) ride since then.     1. Hey Susan! Yes, the Airstream life is a cool, safe and luxurious lifestyle. When practiced with efficiency in mind, mobility can even be carbon neutral. Technology and design is advancing so quickly that, in our lifetimes, weighing the advantages between vehicle or static housing could be, maso menos, parallel. xoxo
