Camco Rhino 15-Gallon Portable RV Tote Tank
Well, we made it 7 years traveling full-time without one of these.
But in our 8th year, we decided to help a family member who was having open heart surgery. We would need to dry camp on their land for at least 2 months and they lived on a treacherous road in the Cherokee National Forrest of Tennessee.
Hitching up and taking the Airstream trailer 10 miles down the mountain once a week or so just wasn’t an option, so we got this ‘honey wagon’ portable tote.
We realized our 40 gallon black tank and 40 gallon gray tank was much larger than this 15 gallon portable tank, but we had to be able to lift the tank when it was full. The two of us together can handle this size, but anything larger we simply would not be able to lift and place it in the back our truck. Pulling it 10 miles down the road on its little plastic wheels also wasn’t an option.
Do the math! One gallon of water weighs a little more than 8 pounds, so 15 gallons weighs about 125 pounds. The two of us can handle that. If we had purchased a 40 gallon tank, it would have weighed 333 pounds when full. No way to lift that into the truck.
We purchased this additional gauge, so we can monitor the contents of the portable tank when filling and shut the black or gray tank valve when it is about full.
Since we purchased it in April 2023, we actually have now used it several times while dry camping. Much easier to use this tank than to hitch up and move the entire trailer to the dump station.
It fits nicely in the bed of the truck while traveling.
Wish we had purchased it sooner.
